Scripture Memorization 9 of 52: Philippians 4:19

“My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
-Philippians 4:19, KJV

Oh that this text would take root in every heart and rid us of the scourge of prosperity theology. Many people are suffering under the delusion that they are not good enough or God does not love them because they do not have all they “want.” They have been told by far too many preachers that God will give them ALL they ask for and desire if they will just be faithful enough.

NONSENSE…

God’s promise is not to give us all we want or rather all we think we want.

His promise as this text clearly states is to supply all that we “need.”

Currently Christina and I are looking for a new house to buy, to set some deep roots here in Maryland. Already we have discovered that there are some things we want in a house that we probably won’t get. Is this because we are not good Christians? Is it because we don’t love Jesus enough? Some preachers would tell us so.

NONSENSE…

God will provide us with what we need. May we get some wants in there? Sure, but if we don’t we won’t complain to God; we will rejoice in what He has supplied.

Rejoice this day in what God has supplied and reject the idea of prosperity theology…the shiny cousin of legalism!
